This mid-level role is ideal for a backend engineer who wants to specialize in high-performance data systems. While the team is "Rust-first," they are open to strong backend developers who can ramp up quickly in Rust. You’ll be joining a small, senior group focused on building the "Knowledge Graph" that powers AI agents and analytics.
The compensation is highly competitive (up to $210k USD base) for a fully remote position. You’ll get to work with a modern, specialized stack including ClickHouse and NATS, while enjoying a "low-process, high-ownership" culture. GitLab is famous for its asynchronous work model, offering immense flexibility for those who are self-disciplined and enjoy written communication.
**You might be a good fit if you...**
* Have professional experience building production-grade backend services and a strong interest in (or experience with) Rust.
* Are curious about graph data modeling, OLAP databases, and distributed messaging systems.
* Enjoy "owning" a feature from design to deployment, including writing runbooks and participating in on-call rotations.
* Are comfortable working across languages (like Ruby or Go) when a task requires touching adjacent systems.
