As the Director of Engineering for Retail, you will be the primary architect and operator of Toast’s highest-growth business unit - a $100M+ "startup" currently doubling year-over-year. You aren't just managing squads; you are responsible for building a configurable, high-scale Retail Platform that serves the unique needs of Grocery and Convenience Store personas while solving the massive data integrity challenges of global inventory. We are moving away from general-purpose tools to build a resilient, offline-first engine that handles everything from fuel payments at the pump to autonomous, agentic inventory replenishment.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
