Location: Home Based - APAC

Type: Full-time

This role is designed for "Linux plumbers"—technical experts who understand the operating system from the BIOS and firmware up to the application layer. The ideal candidate has deep experience in the embedded space (Yocto, Buildroot) and is comfortable in a "Field Engineer" capacity, blending high-level coding/scripting with customer-facing solution architecture. Since this is a remote role based in Japan, professional-level Japanese and English are required. Canonical offers a mature, fully remote work culture with unique perks, including a $2,000 annual personal development budget and twice-yearly international "sprints" where the global team meets in person. While the base salary is not disclosed, they provide annual compensation reviews and a performance-driven bonus structure. **You might be a good fit if you:** * Have hands-on experience with Ubuntu, Debian, or other Linux distributions at a systems level. * Are proficient in Go, Python, C++, or Rust and familiar with low-level boot processes. * Enjoy "the hardest job"—acting as a technical consultant who can solve unpredictable customer challenges on the fly. * Are willing to travel up to 30% for client meetings and international company events.
