Location: Home based - Worldwide
Type: Full-time
This role is designed for "Linux plumbers"—engineers who possess deep, low-level knowledge of the operating system and enjoy the variety of client-facing work. As a mid-level field engineer, you’ll bridge the gap between complex technical implementation (working with EFI, Secure Boot, and firmware) and strategic pre-sales consulting. It is ideal for someone who transitions easily between high-level solution architecture and deep-dive system debugging.
Canonical offers a mature, fully remote global environment with a strong emphasis on travel and professional development. Standout perks include a $2,000 annual learning budget, performance-based bonuses, and the unique "sprint" culture where the team meets in person 2–4 times a year in various global locations. While remote, be prepared for roughly 30% travel to engage with customers in industries like robotics and automotive.
**You might be a good fit if you:**
* Have mastered Linux distributions (specifically Debian/Ubuntu) and packaging tools like deb or rpm.
* Are proficient in low-level languages like C, C++, Rust, or Go, plus scripting in Python.
* Enjoy "the hardest job"—balancing pre-sales requirements gathering with hands-on delivery of embedded projects.
* Are comfortable acting as a trusted advisor to global brands while maintaining a high degree of technical autonomy.
