Type: Full-time
This role is designed for veteran systems engineers who possess elite-level expertise in operating system kernels. The ideal candidate has the technical depth equivalent to 15+ years of industry experience and a natural flair for leadership. You should be an expert in C, highly proficient with Git, and capable of setting technical direction for a team of engineers while maintaining high standards for the Ubuntu Linux ecosystem.
As a fully remote, global position, this role offers exceptional flexibility with a "work from anywhere" model. Notable perks include a $2,000 annual professional development budget, performance-based bonuses, and unique travel opportunities—including twice-yearly international team sprints with Priority Pass and long-haul travel upgrades. You will have a direct impact on the most widely used Linux distribution in enterprise, cloud, and AI sectors.
**You might be a good fit if you:**
* Have extensive experience with the Linux kernel (or other *nix-based kernels) and low-level system engineering.
* Are prepared to drive technical engagements with major silicon and cloud partners.
* Thrive in a self-starting, remote environment that requires clear written and verbal English communication.
* Are comfortable with Bash/Python scripting and have a strong interest in emerging technologies like Rust in the kernel.
