# Job Description Summary
Join a global hardware engineering organization leveraging advanced design tools, simulation methods, and disciplined engineering processes to develop state of the art Magnetic Resonance (MR) systems for leading medical diagnostic imaging applications.
The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer serves as a technical authority and thought leader within the MR Mechanical Engineering team, providing deep expertise across complex subsystems and influencing system level design decisions. This role supports and enhances existing MR platforms while leading the mechanical development of new products, subsystems, and technologies through architecture definition, detailed design, advanced analysis, and the planning and execution of rigorous verification and reliability testing.

# Job Description
## Roles & Responsibilities
### Technical Authority & System Leadership
- Drive accountability for complex designs, high-impact projects, and critical technical issues across multiple programs or product families.
- Lead and participate in technical design reviews, trade studies, and feasibility analyses at both subsystem and system levels.
###### Design, Analysis & Engineering Excellence
- Lead advanced mechanical design and analysis activities, including high-fidelity simulation of functional, structural, thermal, and dynamic behavior of components and subsystems.
- Ensure mechanical solutions meet demanding requirements for performance, reliability, safety, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability in a highly regulated medical environment.
- Translate system-level requirements and product specifications into robust, innovative mechanical architectures and detailed designs.
###### Cost, Reliability & Quality Strategy
- Champion Design for Cost (DFC), Design for Reliability (DFR), and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles across the MR product lifecycle.
- Lead cost-reduction and design-to-value initiatives, including strategic redesigns of high-cost subsystems (with an immediate focus on patient subsystem cost optimization).
- Develop and deploy concepts that measurably improve quality, reliability, and total system cost, influencing standards and best practices.
###### Innovation & Complex Problem Solving
- Tackle the most complex and ambiguous engineering challenges, delivering creative, technically sound solutions with significant business and customer impact.
- Apply deep technical theory, practical engineering experience, and cross-disciplinary input to solve multifactor problems where constraints may be competing or unclear.
- Anticipate technical risks early and lead mitigation strategies across programs.
###### Cross-Functional & Organizational Influence
- Partner closely with systems engineering, electrical, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, service, and program teams to deliver highly integrated solutions.
- Influence technical decisions beyond direct ownership through strong functional expertise, credibility, and clear communication.
- Engage with suppliers at a technical leadership level to shape specifications, evaluate design solutions, and resolve complex issues.
###### Strategic & Talent Development Contributions
- Identify and develop opportunities to support Strategic Sourcing objectives, Common Technology initiatives, and platform-level reuse across the MR product line.
- Mentor and guide other engineers, raising overall technical capability, rigor, and consistency within the mechanical engineering organization.
- Contribute to the definition of engineering standards, processes, and long-term technical roadmaps.
#### Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in applied mechanical engineering design, analysis, and verification of mechanical structures, mechanisms, and assemblies in a medical environment.
- Knowledge of industry and academic practices and standards related to mechanical design and fabrication.
- Working knowledge of mechanical aspects of system design and integration.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional project team environment.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Willingness to work full-time in our Waukesha, WI facility (hybrid schedule).
#### Desired Characteristics
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline.
- 2–3 years of experience working with Creo for mechanical design or similar software.
- Experience working in strong magnetic field environments.
- Experience with plastics design, electronics packaging, and cable design and management.
- Experience with structural and/or thermal simulation and analysis.
- Understanding of commercial and regulatory standards as applied to medical products.
- Demonstrated technical leadership capability in development and implementation activities.
- Self-starter with an energizing, results-oriented mindset and the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent teamwork, coordination, and communication skills.
- Experience with common mechanical tools, including assembly tools, fabrication tools, and measurement equipment.
- Ability to meet aggressive cost, reliability, performance, serviceability, and delivery targets.
- Global project experience.
- Knowledge of UL, ETL, and IEC standards and their application to mechanical designs.
- Working knowledge of GE HealthCare tools and processes.
