This role is for a senior Linux expert who thrives at the intersection of hardware and software. You should have a deep background in the Linux stack—from the kernel to virtualization—and experience working with silicon partners to optimize operating systems for next-generation hardware. A strong foundation in C, C++, or Python and a history of contributing to open-source communities (particularly with Debian or RPM packaging) are essential. The standout feature of this position is its "remote-first" culture; Canonical has been fully distributed since 2004, offering true global flexibility. While the base salary is location-dependent, the package includes a $2,000 USD annual professional development budget, global "sprints" for international travel to meet colleagues, and a Priority Pass for travel upgrades. It is a high-impact role where your work directly affects Ubuntu users across IoT, data centers, and automotive sectors. **You might be a good fit if you...** * Have extensive experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, or Yocto). * Are comfortable working across the full stack, including UEFI, GPUs, and networking. * Enjoy collaborating with major silicon vendors to integrate new hardware features. * Want to work in a fast-paced, autonomous environment with a focus on free software.
