The Personal Insurance Loss and Demand Modeling Team is looking for a skilled Principal Data Engineer to join our team.  This role will focus on positioning our loss modeling frameworks for the future of personal insurance pricing, with a strong focus on telematics and 3rd party data integration. 

Ideal candidates bring deep expertise in data engineering frameworks and tools (e.g., Spark, Snowflake), proficiency in programming languages (Python, SQL, PL/SQL), and experience with DevOps / DataOps pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS services), and agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban). Familiarity with data warehousing, streaming technologies, and modern architecture such as Lakehouse and Data Mesh is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are essential, along with a proactive mindset and the ability to thrive in complex, fast-paced environments.

To succeed in this role, you should be a strong critical thinker, technical acumen and be able to derive the root causes of business problems.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office ( Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$127,200 - $190,800
