Summary

This role is designed for a high-autonomy product leader with deep roots in B2B SaaS and enterprise platform governance. The ideal candidate has a technical background in building the "connective tissue" of a platform—specifically the administration, policy frameworks, and compliance guardrails that allow large organizations to deploy AI safely. You should have a sophisticated understanding of how enterprises audit and control data flows within AI lifecycles. GitLab offers a highly competitive salary ($180k–$250k) and a "remote-first" culture that truly embraces flexibility and asynchronous work. As a Principal-level hire reporting to the VP of AI, you’ll have significant influence over the company’s AI roadmap, moving beyond just building features to defining the governance standards that unlock enterprise-wide adoption. **You might be a good fit if you...** * Have led the end-to-end delivery of complex technical products like IAM, usage analytics, or policy engines. * Understand the regulatory landscape for AI, including frameworks like the EU AI Act or NIST RMF. * Excel at translating complex backend model behaviors into clear, user-friendly admin controls for IT and security teams. * Thrive in high-growth, remote environments where you are expected to mentor others and drive strategy independently.

## An overview of this role

As the Principal Product Manager, AI Control Plane and Guardrails, you'll own GitLab's AI control plane end-to-end — the set of capabilities that give organizations visibility, control, and confidence as they adopt AI across the DevSecOps lifecycle. This spans governance and policy management, admin and access controls, subscription and entitlement management, usage analytics and reporting, audit and compliance, and the platform experiences that make AI trustworthy and manageable at enterprise scale. You'll report to the Vice President of Product for AI and partner closely with engineering, design, security, and cross-functional stakeholders to define outcomes, make tradeoffs, and ship iteratively for large organizations.

In your first year, you'll focus on establishing a clear product strategy for AI Guardrails and Governance, translating customer demand into a prioritized roadmap, and delivering foundational capabilities that set teams up for secure, compliant, and scalable use of AI across GitLab.
