Type: Full-time
This role is for a Senior Backend Engineer with a deep interest in security and infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong production experience in Ruby on Rails—and ideally some exposure to Go—and understands the nuances of CI/CD security. You should be comfortable with architectural ownership, from designing GraphQL APIs to managing Kubernetes deployments via Helm charts.
As part of a fully remote, asynchronous team, you will have high autonomy to shape the future of native secrets management. GitLab is known for its transparent culture and high-performance environment where AI is integrated into daily workflows. Benefits include flexible PTO, equity compensation through an ESPP, and a growth and development fund to support your continuous learning.
**You might be a good fit if you...**
* Have a "security-first" mindset and experience building RBAC models or secrets management solutions (like HashiCorp Vault or OpenBao).
* Are proficient in Ruby on Rails and willing to work with or learn Go for specialized components.
* Enjoy "end-to-end" ownership, including debugging production issues and fine-tuning Kubernetes configurations.
* Thrive in an asynchronous, documentation-heavy environment where you communicate technical tradeoffs in writing.
