Senior Security Operations Engineer at Canonical

This role is designed for a veteran security professional or engineer with 10+ years of experience who bridges the gap between software development and security

Work type: remote

Location: Home based - Worldwide

Type: Full-time

This role is designed for a veteran security professional or engineer with 10+ years of experience who bridges the gap between software development and security operations. It is a dual-threat position: they are looking for someone who can perform traditional SOC duties like threat hunting while also building custom security tools and infrastructure. It's an ideal fit for those who thrive in a Linux-centric, open-source environment and have a background in both incident response and system automation. The standout feature of this position is the "remote-first" culture that Canonical pioneered, offering true worldwide flexibility. While the base salary isn't listed, the package includes a $2,000 annual professional development budget, performance bonuses, and twice-yearly international "sprints" where the team meets in person. This is also a rare opportunity to contribute directly to the open-source ecosystem through public threat intelligence and software releases. **You might be a good fit if you:** * Have 10+ years of experience and can lead both engineering projects and security incident responses. * Are highly proficient in Python, Bash, and modern Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Kubernetes. * Enjoy "building the plane while flying it"—creating the tools you use to monitor and defend a global estate. * Have a strong academic background in Computer Science or a compelling equivalent professional history.
