Software Engineer, Infrastructure at whatnot
This role is designed for mid-to-senior level Software Engineers (5+ years of experience) who transition fluidly between infrastructure and backend development.
Work type: remote
Location: Kraków, Poland
Type: Full-time
This role is designed for mid-to-senior level Software Engineers (5+ years of experience) who transition fluidly between infrastructure and backend development. While you’ll be working in an Infrastructure Reliability team, this is a "software engineer first" position rather than a traditional DevOps or SRE role. You should be someone who enjoys building the actual services and frameworks that handle high-traffic spikes and ensure system resiliency.
The position offers the flexibility of being fully remote in Poland, joining one of the fastest-growing e-commerce marketplaces in North America and Europe. You will work within a modern, cloud-native tech stack (AWS, Kubernetes) and have the opportunity to code in Python, Elixir, and Go. It’s a high-impact role where your work on traffic control and chaos engineering directly protects the company’s ability to scale during live auction events.
**You might be a good fit if you...**
* Have significant experience building large-scale distributed systems in Go, Python, or Elixir.
* Prefer writing code and building internal tools over simply configuring infrastructure or managing tickets.
* Are experienced with traffic management (rate limiting, circuit breakers) and cloud-native environments like Kubernetes.
* Enjoy "breaking things" to fix them via chaos engineering and load testing frameworks.
