Work type: remote
Location: Home based - Worldwide
Type: Full-time
This role is designed for a technical leader who bridges the gap between low-level systems engineering and people management. The ideal candidate has a deep background in Linux internals (kernel or user space), is fluent in C/C++, and possesses significant experience leading engineering teams. Since this position focuses on Ubuntu's performance on next-gen silicon, a strong academic background and a solid understanding of hardware architectures like ARM, RISC-V, or x86 are essential.
As a remote-first, globally distributed company, Canonical offers true location flexibility and a multicultural environment. While the role is fully remote, a standout feature is the biannual international travel for week-long team sprints in different global locations. You’ll also receive a $2,000 annual development budget, performance bonuses, and travel perks like Priority Pass for your professional trips.
**You might be a good fit if you...**
* Are a hands-on manager who is comfortable reviewing C/C++ patches and software design specs.
* Have experience with Debian/Ubuntu packaging and an interest in open-source community standards.
* Excel in a high-standard, result-oriented environment that prioritizes disciplined engineering processes.
* Enjoy collaborating directly with silicon vendors to optimize hardware/software integration from the ground up.
