Summary

This role is designed for a heavyweight backend leader with at least 7 years of experience who thrives on building the "pipes" of a massive digital economy. While listed as "mid-level" in categorization, the "Staff" title and high compensation indicate they are looking for a technical architect capable of leading large-scale distributed systems and defining the roadmap for advertising infrastructure. The compensation is a major draw, with a base salary reaching up to $303,900 plus equity. The position offers complete geographic flexibility within the U.S. and the chance to work on high-stakes projects—like permissions systems and external-facing APIs—that directly impact the company's revenue. You’ll have significant autonomy, owning projects from ideation to delivery. **You might be a good fit if you:** * Have mastered Go or Python and have a track record of scaling distributed backend services. * Enjoy "platform-as-a-product" work where your primary customers are other engineers and third-party developers. * Prefer a "bias for action" environment where you are expected to drive decisions without waiting for a manual. * Can navigate complex stakeholder environments to find consensus on technical architecture.

### Team Description

(We have 3 new openings for the Ads org)Ads Business Manager

The Business Manager team stands out for its genuinely inclusive and collaborative culture, where not only is open feedback central, but every opinion and idea is truly valued and given space to shape our direction. Here, diverse perspectives are seen as a core strength, fostering a team dynamic where everyone feels empowered to contribute and innovate. On a day-to-day basis, engineers tackle complex, high-stakes challenges at the core of Reddit’s ads platform which include innovating on permissions systems, building agency and LCS solutions, and driving adoption among Reddit's largest advertisers. From ideation to delivery, our engineers are trusted with end-to-end ownership of their projects, working closely in cross-functional collaboration with PMs, UX, and partner teams. This hands-on approach means every team member plays a direct and visible role in delivering high-impact, user-focused solutions for some of Reddit’s most strategic advertisers.

Ads Safety and Verification

Ad Safety is a growing team focusing on user safety and advertiser trust by building a robust, automated ecosystem that prioritizes Brand Suitability and Ads Integrity. This is achieved by deploying highly accurate automated ad review systems that vet content before it goes live, coupled with advanced brand safety classifications and controls that give brands granular agency over their ad adjacency along with ensuring Reddit standards are adhered to. By further integrating with trusted third-party verification partners, the platform not only solidifies confidence in its ad effectiveness but also creates a transparent, scalable environment designed to unlock significant revenue growth.

The team is expanding its Fraud counter-measures by consolidating the identification and enforcement of deceptive ads (Malware, Phishing, Scams) and Billing fraud into a centralized platform. Collecting signals across multiple surfaces, in addition to third party vendor integration, will allow for more effective measures to analyze coordinated efforts of bad actors and pre-emptive detection of malignant intent.

Advertiser Growth and Retention

The Advertiser Growth team is the engine driving Reddit’s SMB revenue and active advertiser base. Our mission is to make SMBs successful on the platform and retain them as customers, a goal we are aggressively pursuing by evolving our platform beyond initial activations.

As we look to 2026 and beyond, the Retention focus of our team is critical. We are moving from simple acquisition to full campaign lifecycle support—building intelligent systems that help advertisers optimize their campaigns, understand their value, and remain active on the platform. This team owns high-impact initiatives like the 1 Click Campaign automation, reactivation flows, and sophisticated optimization tools that ensure every advertiser, from a first-time SMB to a returning large merchant, finds success on Reddit.
