This position will be responsible for the development and deployment of Risk Engineering specialized practices for the Cyber Liability Line of Business. This includes but is not limited to strategic planning, resource management, technical support, evaluation, and business development. In addition, the role will require future managerial duties for a staff of dedicated specialized Risk Engineering Consultants. Completion of field and virtual survey work on insured operations that demand the highest technical skillsets will also be required. Identification of Risk Engineering recommendations, solutions, and opportunities for impactful service opportunities will be a key skill set for this position.

Responsibilities:
The Director of Cyber Liability Risk Engineering must drive the following business activities that support the business needs of the organization.
Responsibilities may include:
• Technical Acumen – Proficient specialization in the Cyber Security/Liability industry. High level of technical knowledge and understanding of core cyber insurance coverages and perils. Must have ability to manage the Cyber Liability Line of Business and related disciplines for all matters relating to the delivery of Risk Engineering products and services inclusive of training, collateral materials, technical assistance and support to both our internal partners and external customers. High level and breadth of technical knowledge related to current cyber best practices around cyber security and liability risk transfer techniques. This role will also be responsible for maintaining current knowledge and keeping up with industry condition changes.
• Risk Engineering Staff Development - Strengthen the level of expertise within Risk Services Cyber Liability discipline. Oversee and provide the technical assistance and support to the RE Consultant staff by: (a) Acting as the “subject matter expert” by keeping current through Risk Services development (co-travel, seminars, conferences, resource materials and peer interaction). (b) Providing technical assistance, training, and mentoring to the RE Consultants in support of Underwriting initiatives and requirements. (c) Assessing, developing, creating or revising new and current content or resource materials. (d) Provide assistance and support to partners such as Underwriting, Claims, Agents, Insureds (both new and renewal). (e) Personally complete field survey work upon request where necessary for our largest and most complex accounts. (f) Support Underwriting sales initiatives as requested which may include sales presentation attendance and support.
• Segment Liaison - Regularly communicate and collaborate with Cyber business partners and vendors to create a strong and credible relationship. Communicate information to Risk Services to ensure that they understand and act upon key initiatives and objectives.
• Training - The development and implementation of key training initiatives for all of the products and services that our Cyber business partners require. Enhance current state including technical manuals, training materials, and overall field support to develop and maintain technical information as required. Working in conjunction with the Training Director, you will provide the necessary content to move each discipline to a higher place regarding training programs within our organization.

Plan, organize, and manage resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. Develop, implement, and evaluate project plan(s) for special projects as assigned. Monitor progress and take corrective action when necessary.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Risk Management, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 12+ years of experience in cyber security or IT risk management, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, or CPCU with a cyber risk focus.
• Familiarity with insurance operations, policy administration systems, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong communication and consultative skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights.
• This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work schedule, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Risk Assessment: Must have a high degree of knowledge and skill to handle complex situations that arise from our new and renewal business submissions. Will work with large complex accounts to assess exposures and controls and provide underwriters and agents with direction to improve account conditions and lessen financial exposure. Must have the ability identify new service opportunities or additional exposures to loss and be able to mentor internal staff to do the same.
Risk Improvement Services: Must have a high degree of knowledge and skill to provide Risk Improvement service work. This would include the completion of operational loss analysis reports and accident investigations used to direct services that would eliminate or control conditions that could lead to potential losses. Must have the ability to complete detailed service plans; provide consultative recommendations in business letters; and have the ability to use the tools and products to provide the services necessary, as well as develop new tools. Must be able to communicate the status of service plans in the context of what the Hartford has to offer that would affect the insured’s control of exposures. Must be able to direct and manage complex multi-location accounts. And have the ability to support Field Operations in all of the above.
Consultative Selling Skills: Must have a high degree of skill and confidence when working with insured accounts using a business consultative approach. Based on their knowledge of the insureds business activities and needs they are able to move the account in a direction that eliminates exposures and/or controls the potential for future financial loss.
Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills: Must have high degree of knowledge and skill to make formal written and verbal presentations to our insured accounts and agents with the ability to influence and motivate others. Presentations must be well thought out and professionally constructed, as well as being clear, concise and focused. Reports to Management are expected to be of professional quality. These reports must provide direction to the insured, agent and underwriter to improve operations and reduce potential insurable loss.
Industry Specific Knowledge and Safety: Must have an understanding of the Regional Office business plans and industry specific issues that affect each distinct territory. Have the confidence to speak to the issues that may affect the financial conditions of the region and offer advice to lessen our exposures. Provide support for Field staff in addressing these initiatives.
Business Tools: Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint and Word as well as presentation platforms such as GoToMeeting and Microsoft Teams.
Preferred Skills:
• Familiarity with SCADA/ICS environments and cyber-physical systems.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
