This role is ideal for a mid-level Linux kernel engineer with a deep technical focus on the interface between hardware and software. You should be an expert in the x86 bootstrap process and have a solid grasp of ACPI, UEFI, and AML. This is a highly specialized engineering position that bridges the gap between PC platform vendors and the Ubuntu kernel, requiring a candidate who can navigate complex firmware bugs and contribute directly to the Linux upstream. Canonical offers a mature, fully remote work culture that has been "remote-first" since 2004. Standout perks include a $2,000 annual professional development budget, performance-based bonuses, and twice-yearly international travel for team sprints. While the base salary is not disclosed, the company emphasizes a global compensation strategy that includes annual reviews and travel upgrades for long-haul flights. **You might be a good fit if you...** * Have significant C programming experience and a strong background in Git. * Can demonstrate previous work with ACPI/UEFI or active participation in the Coreboot project. * Are comfortable collaborating with global hardware vendors to resolve "boot-time" issues. * Enjoy both low-level kernel patching and improving automation tooling like the Firmware Test Suite (FWTS).
