# Job Description Summary
The Utilities / Sustainability Systems Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all site utilities within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This position provides technical and operational leadership across mechanical and electrical utility systems, with accountability for asset lifecycle management, contractor performance, compliance readiness, and continuous improvement. The role also drives sustainability-by-design principles, applying systems engineering methodologies to optimise energy, water, and resource efficiency while supporting site operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability goals.
# Job Description
## Responsibilities
- Support the Utilities team including engineers and technician teams, (Mechanical and Electrical)
- Efficiently and reliably operate all utilities through effective resource deployment within the dept
- Manage and support the site's mechanical and electrical utilities, including generation and distribution, to meet regulatory standards
- Working within the budget framework, maintain all systems and areas operated by Utilities to an audit ready standard.
- Lead the lifecycle management program for all assets under your care
- Take ownership of service contracts for equipment and systems, ensuring appropriate service levels are established.
- Develop reporting strategies and build strategic partnerships to support site operational goals.
- Resolve system issues directly through hands-on involvement as necessary using RCPS tools
- Manage budgets associated with utilities within scope accordingly
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for upkeep of asset information within the maintenance management system.
- Work with industry partners to maintain team experience to keep up to date with changes in regulations and industry standard methodologies-practices to support utility operation, (GMP and Non-GMP), and maintenance in a pharmaceutical manufacturing setting.
- Develop training and development strategies to enhance technical expertise and succession planning within the utilities department.
- Design and optimise integrated systems to reduce energy use, carbon emissions, water consumption, and material waste.
- Apply systems-engineering methodologies to improve sustainability performance across facilities, utilities, and processes.
- Support new projects and upgrades with sustainability-by-design principles.

## Qualifications and requirements- Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or suitable equivalent field or equivalent
- Experience in the operation of utilities such as Electrical Utilities, Steam, Cooling Water, Chillers and Refrigeration, HVAC, Speciality gases and Compressed Air.
- Strong experience in a regulated industry, with preference given to candidates with pharmaceutical experience.
- Proven track record of operational leadership in utility environments.
- Experience in management of calibration services associated with utilities is desirable.
- Strong expertise in quality and compliance documentation development in cGMP environments
